The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation in Stuttgart, Fraunhofer IPA for short, is one of the leading research institutions in the field of production and automation technology. The core competencies of the "Image and Signal Processing" department focus on the intelligent, automated interpretation of image and sensor information to solve complex tasks, including the practical application of modern AI methods. The application spectrum ranges from 2D measurement and inspection systems to modern 3D evaluation with optical 3D sensor technology to 3D object recognition and scene analysis for automation technology, assembly assistance, fall detection, among others. Many years of experience with optical sensor technology and data evaluation methods, especially for person and object position recognition with ML methods, enable the Fraunhofer IPA to realize the planned recognition solutions and to guarantee human-centered implementation.
